Power generation systems are significant investments which will, if planned, designed, and maintained correctly, remain in operation for decades. IEC provides comprehensive engineering and design services for new generating facilities, expansions, modifications, upgrades, and scheduled improvements to keep power generation facilities in service and generating power at optimal efficiency. IEC provides consulting and technical services from planning and conceptual design through design implementation and operations.
IEC Corporation provides technical and management services for gas-fired power generation facilities in all configurations: simple cycle/peaker, combined cycle, and cogeneration. Services include support for the design, expansion, modification, and repowering of facilities from small (5 MW) to large (500+ MW) power plants. IEC is helping to guide its utility clients in the design of new plants and the retrofit of existing plants. We have successfully provided engineering and/or construction management services for more than 30 utility scale gas fired power generation projects. This includes experience with a diverse range of gas turbines including GE LMS100, GE LM6000, GE Frame 5, GE Frame 7FA, GE Frame 7E, Rolls Royce, Pratt & Whitney FT4, Siemens V84.2 and Siemens-Westinghouse 501FD units, among others.
Reciprocating engine power plants have advantageous characteristics for today's electricity markets, including quick-start capability, flexible dispatching for peaking operation, modular designs, ability to operate on multiple fuels, less complicating project siting, and increased reliability and efficiency. Reciprocating engine sizes for power generation range from 4 to 20 MW.
IEC's engineering team is skilled in both medium- and high-speed reciprocating engine design and engineering. Our experts design experience extends from single-engine black-start or emergency/back-up generators to multi-engine prime power installations using a variety of fuels, including natural gas, light fuel oil, heavy fuel oil, biodiesel, biofuels, and crude oil.
Fuel cells are available in many different application areas from small power up to utility-scale and are appropriate for both intermittent use and supplemental power. As the costs have been significantly reduced over the past few years, fuel cells offer a viable business case today for many of our clients.
IEC is well versed in the development and installation of fuel cells for use in portable and stationary applications. We work with our clients and fuel cell manufacturers to model and install the optimal components and systems for each site. We also perform reliability and safety assessments and warranty review to ensure our clients receive the fuel cell solution best suited for their needs.
