Fredonyer Wind Project

CLIENT: Sacramento Municipal Utility District

IEC was assigned to develop quarterly wind resource reports based on data downloaded from meteorological towers located in the Fredonyer Hills. Equipment on the two towers measures and records wind speeds, wind direction, and temperature. The scope of work included: reviewing and cleaning stored data; reporting numbers of missing data elements from each sensor; determining monthly average hourly wind speeds; determining average quarterly wind direction; and calculating wind shear coefficients. IEC extrapolated wind speeds to 80m using wind shear coefficients and used an estimated 80m wind speed to drive power curves for three commercially available, utility-class wind turbine generators. From this information, IEC then estimated peak energy losses and calculated total monthly and quarterly MWh productions for the three WTGs. Quarterly reports were submitted to the client for use in future decision-making processes. IEC was then tasked with continued data analysis and reporting for the project under separate task orders.
