Project Management

Energy projects are often large, complex, and sophisticated. Many projects are one of a kind involving unique systems, processes, and technical challenges. Without effective oversight, projects commonly overrun their budgets and schedules, leading to facilities that do not function as intended, projects that have extensive cost overruns, or facilities that are consistently plagued with problems.

When serving in a Project Management role, IEC maintains control of each project through:

  • a comprehensive project management policy;
  • clear definitions of responsibility and accountability;
  • control of changes in the scope, cost, and definition of the project;
  • dissemination and implementation of lessons learned pre-project and preconstruction;
  • assessing and managing project risk;
  • setting contingency allowances based on risk;
  • cost estimation and scheduling;
  • objective performance-based incentives;
  • performance measurement and progress reports;
  • financial reporting systems;
  • cost and performance databases;
  • training, and qualification of project managers; and
  • overall project organization.
