SMUD Tasks IEC with a CCHP Market Assessment for Biogas Plants

Sacramento, Calif., November 3, 2009 – IEC has been tasked by the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) to perform a Combined Cooling, Heating and Power (CCHP) Market Assessment for Biogas Plants. The objective of this project is to estimate the CCHP market potential using biogas and biomass because of its energy efficiency and GHG emission benefits. To complete this assessment, IEC will evaluate the technical and economic potentials of CCHP using renewable fuels, especially biogas and biomass, in SMUD’s service territory and balancing authority. IEC’s engineers will characterize the technology options for CCHP using renewable biomass fuels and estimate market penetration potential of CCHP.
