IEC Corporation is seeking Senior Electrical Engineers with high-voltage substation experience for both of our offices (Sacramento, California and Portland, Oregon). The candidates will serve as a senior electrical engineer and project manager to support electrical power projects. Specifically, the candidate will design power plants, substations, and electrical service facilities. The candidate will prepare complete design and construction packages with all required electrical drawings including one-lines, schematics, elementaries, wiring diagrams, layouts, SCADA drawings, etc.

This position will entail working with other engineering disciplines and interfacing with clients to successfully manage projects. Candidates must prove their project management skills with previously managed projects and a list of references for verification.

Candidates must have: Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, California Electrical Professional Engineering (PE) license, and a minimum of eight (8) years of similar experience with specific work in power system and substation design. Computer literate with knowledge of typically-used electrical engineering analysis programs.

Essential to this position are the following: the ability to reason logically; draw valid conclusions and take appropriate action; communicate effectively in verbal and written form; coordinate work load; manage others effectively; work directly with clients; work well under pressure; and work within a team.

REQUIRED SKILL SET & EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in design of substation facilities at various voltage levels including voltages up to 230 kV.
  • Working experience in various aspects of power system design, construction, relay protection, and problem solving.
  • Working experience in design standards, calculating relay settings for transmission lines, distribution lines, generators, buses, and transformers.
  • Experience in the preparation of equipment specifications and design drawing packages, and the interpretation of electrical design drawings.
  • Experience related to modern relays, generation and transmission line protection, electro-mechanical, solid state and microprocessor relays and relaying schemes, relay settings, understanding of electrical design and drawings, and relay testing philosophy and methodology.
  • Knowledge of relay software and logic developments for complicated relaying scheme used on the high voltage transmission lines, and knowledge of computer application programs, that includes Aspen one-liner or short-circuit; Aspen relay database, and Microsoft Office suite or equivalent.
  • Experience with new microprocessor-based relays, electromechanical, and solid state relays.
  • Familiarity with transmission and generation protection schemes.
  • Familiarity with different types of relay setting and logic building software, especially SEL software, Alstom and/or Areva MICOM software, and other relay software programs used in the industry.
  • Development of complete electrical design packages that include conceptual design, detail drawings, wiring, RTU, bill of materials, cable schedules, cost estimates, and to provide engineering support during construction phase.
  • Electrical power system design and analysis, problem analysis and corrective modification design, and associated material procurement packages.
  • Engineering cost benefit analysis, project scheduling, and project management.
  • Preparation of electrical equipment specifications, including relays, wiring, panels, etc.
